MEETING HOUSE

By Cherie Carver

I met Dress when his son Wally was 2 and I had the good fortune to have Wally in my class. Wally broke his leg that year and would crawl and play in the rug while he was recuperating. I can still see him on the rug, doing his thing. Wally had a favorite power station (I think it was power station — Dress is laughing at me from above) and even a second favorite. He would fashion scientific instruments out of basic materials in my preschool room. Dress’s love of science, his playful spirit and his resilience was already strong in 2-3 year old Wally.

During the Dressler kids time I Meeting House, I moderated a parent round table monthly. Kris showed up at those meeting regularly for 2 years, along with friend Julie Schroeder. We always had great discussions, in large part because of Dress. He always wanted to know more! We didn’t always agree—parenting isn’t an exact science with a a predictable outcome—but I know that we came to love and respect each other greatly. I look back on those meetings fondly, like a warm hug and a precious gift.

Cece was also in my class. She was quieter than Wally was at 2, and so sweet. The love and kindness that her parents both exhibit was strong in her, even as a 2-3 year old.

Leslie and I grew closer and I remember being over at their unique and magical home a couple of times. Once for scone day and another time to care for the children in an emergency. I was so grateful that Leslie turned to me that day. It meant the world to me to know that I was so trusted and loved by this special family.

Dressler family, the 4 of you (plus grandma Lindsey) are forever in my heart for the beautiful love we’ve shared.

Forever in my heart, 💚 Cherie Carver
